China Cycle 2010 Enjoyed A Strong Turnout
By : Vinay Khurana
The Grand Opening Ceremony of the 20th China International Bicycle & Motor Fair (known as China Cycle 2010) was held on 27th April, 2010 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. It was a four-day Show, which lasted up to 30th of April. As it is widely known to everybody, the event was organized by China Bicycle Association, jointly sponsored by Shanghai Xie Sheng Exhibition Co. Ltd. and also Shanghai International Exhibition Co. Ltd.

The Exhibition, this year, covered more than 100,000 square meters of space, which is an increase of 10% more space than the previous Show. The Show as a whole was divided into 10 different/specialized Exhibition zones, which included Bicycle and Spare Parts, Electric Bicycles and Spare Parts, Motorcycle and Spare Parts, Machinery and Equipment, Stroller and Spare Parts, Bicycle Travel Leisure products, etc. The Show had attracted exhibitors from 1,132 renowned enterprises from over 14 countries and regions, namely: Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, the United States of America, Japan, Korea, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In general, there was an overall growth of 10% increase visitors and exhibitors as compared to the previous year. From the aesthetic look of the Show itself, it was well sufficient to proclaim that the organizers had taken extra care to maintain its position as the most significant and influential Exhibition in Asia.

Despite the air traffic problems in Europe due to eruption of the volcano and its widespread ash that forced either to cancel or delay several flights and thus precluded some European Executives, this years Shanghai Show enjoyed a strong turnout with exhibitors representing thousands of factories from China and Taiwan. This year’s Show was indeed a specimen for showcasing Confidence and Strength of the China Bicycle Industry. The Show embodied the highest level of development that the China Bicycle Industry has achieved in recent years. The changes that took place were being very much visible especially towards

being more personalized, professional and high quality product in terms of its product design, the usage of new material and technology, branding culture, business model and above all understanding the creative trends. Several world class enterprises such as Shimano, Bianchi, etc. had showcased their products other than Spare Parts enterprises such as DT Swiss, Salloy Co. Ltd., Pacific Cycles Inc. etc exhibited as a group to showcase their strength.

Being the most respected exhibitions in the Chinese Bicycle Industry, the 20th Anniversary of Chine Cycle made full efforts to increase the audience interaction through various methods such as “case connections.”
As it is applicable to all developed and developing countries, the serious threatening constraint of sustainable growth being faced by China is the “Toxic Emissions” of Carbon dioxide and Carbon Monoxide by the increased quantum of motorized vehicles. With the foresight of China, for the past 20 years, China Cycle has insisted on promoting the idea of a low-carbon life-style, i.e. “Bicycle Culture”, making efforts to change consumer culture and behaviour in China, which has generated positive international recognition in global fashion circles for the Bicycle Industry. Apart from this, it is understood that the organizers are constantly well focused on “Innovation, Creativity, and Leadership”, to further promote original bicycle design highlighting the progress made in industry reorganization and continuous upgrading to foster bicycle culture, so as to escape from the current issue of global warming and air pollution. In response to the country’s growing carbon emissions, China Cycle promoted a low-carbon life-style “bicycle culture” in order to change Chinese Consumer Culture and Behaviour Culture.
It is a commonly agreed fact that Chinese Bicycle Industry has grown substantially in comparison over the past 20 years, both China International Bicycle & Motor Fair continue to adopt a “globalized” view, mindset, operating model, sales channels and rating system. They are also determined to provide news for sourcing, displaying of brands, platforms for enterprises, etc. to move from the present stage of “Made in China” to “Created in China” level.

China Cycle 2010 was indeed an exciting and unforgettable celebration. A series of celebration activities were held along with the theme of “20 Years of Elegance”, which included awards “The Industry’s Most Influential Brand from the Exhibition”, “Gold, Silver, Bronze Outstanding Exhibitors”, “The Most Influential Exhibition Event”, etc. Other than that, there were a series of high quality, high level academic lectures and professional forums, which included “Forum on the Development of the Lithium-ion bicycle Industry and its Future Commercial Value in 2010.” There were also presentations on “Improving International Marketing” and a special Forum on “Homeland of Creativity – Innovative Bicycle Designs”, etc. It is understood that Chinese have more disposable income and are developing an interest in traveling to explore their country, which is evident in the proliferation of cycling events throughout China. With the increase of cycling events comes the demand for higher-end bikes. It is noteworthy to mention that the Beijing Olympics Games has further inspired the Chinese to participate in more and more sporting events. Organizing all such events, competitions, Shows, etc. are primarily with the objective to inspire people towards the use of bicycles and thus stimulating its demand, which ultimately is the need of environmental conservation and energy saving apart from saving the environment from disastrous emissions and global warming.

We wish that let this be the global trend to use bicycles in place of motorized vehicles – wherever it is possible – so that we can save not only the local but the global environment as a whole from irreversible and disastrous events and keep the

people fit in a green environment. We would like to take this opportunity to express our hearty congratulations to China Cycle Shows and also wish that may all their endeavours meet with success year-after-year…!!
