United Cycle Parts and Manufacturers’ Association (UCPMA), Asia’s largest body of Cycle parts manufacturers, held their 42nd Election on 18th of September, 2009 at Ludhiana. Mr. D. S. Chawla of Chawla International was elected as President. Mr. Chawla won the race by defeating Mr. Inderjit Singh Navyug of Navyug Engineers by a margin of 93 votes. Mr. D. S. Chawla bagged 684 votes as against 777 by Inderjit Singh Navyug. Mr. Harminder Singh was the presiding officer for the elections. The polling was started at 8.30 AM went off till 5.30 PM. ![]() The candidates of Chawla Group won all the eight posts in the elections, which were held in a free and fair manner amidst tight security arrangements at the UCPMA Complex. Mr. Inderjit Singh Navyug while accepting the defeat expressed, “The margin of defeat is not large; therefore, we are not badly defeated.” There were altogether about 20 candidates in the fray for various posts of the Association. Mr. Gurmeet Singh Kular (Kular International) won to hold the position of Senior Vice President by defeating his rival Manmohan Singh Ubhi by a margin of 198 votes. |

For the post of Vice President, Mr. Harpal Singh Bhamber (bhamber Mech. Works) defeated Mr. Vikas Due by a margin of 114 votes.Mr. Rajiv Jain (R & R Bikes/Sebco) attained the position of General Secretary by defeating Mr. Varinder Kapoor by a margin of 120 votes. M/s Jain and Kapoor were polled 780 and 660 votes respectively. Further, Mr. Rajnish Gupta (Manish Industries) won the position of Secretary by bagging 763 votes as against 696 of Mr. Pardeep Wadhawan. The position of Joint Secretary went to Mr. Parveen Kumar Bittu (K G Sales) by attaining 764 votes against his opponent Mr. Rajinder Singh Pappu who could only manage to achieve 690 votes. Mr. Jagatvir Bittu (Ason Industries) had a thumbing victory to keep the position of Propaganda Secretary by achieving 802 votes against his challenger Mr. Ajit Kumar, who got only 646 votes. Mr. Surinder Singh Bunty (Pardhan Sons) is the elected Finance Secretary, who defeated Mr. Achhru Ram Gupta by a margin of 83 votes.While commenting on the victory of Mr. D. S. Chawla, he had lost the last two elections. Mr. D. S. Chawla after winning the race said, “We will work for the betterment of the Association. The issues, which have not been represented till recently, will be taken up with both the State and the Central Government level.” Mr Chawla assured that his doors were always open to receive suggestions from the association members and the industry. He said he was committed to revive the old status of the association both at the national and international levels. He said he and his team members would always work to promote the industry. |
